Then They Came For Me…

First they came for Jackson,
and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t play D&D.

Then they came for Neidorf,
and I didn’t speak out because I trusted the phone company.

Then they came for Mitnick,
and I didn’t speak out because I thought the government was telling the truth.

Then they came for Watt,
and I didn’t speak up because I believed the prosecution.

Then they came for Swartz,
and I didn’t speak out because I never used JSTOR.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

Steve Jackson, William Gibson, Emmanuel Goldstein, ect… helped make certain computer related hobbys become the victim of popular culture.

They’re the reason why families bring their bratty kids to defcon… or scramble to buy t-shirts and memorabilia instead of actually talking about computers.

In that sense, they’ve actually helped the government and corporate influence keep track of threats… while distantiating people with a real knack for computers.

The only people worth your pity would be Neidorf and Swartz. But Mitnick? Meh… I never liked all those AOL using hipsters who fallowed him like some cult leader.
